Cameroonians based in
Australia are organised within an association called Cameroon Association of
Australia Incorporated (CAA Inc). This Association is no political and
not for profit organisation. We have been active since the inception of the association and we currently have over 40 financial members who are either
Cameroonians or friends of Cameroonians (referring to our
constitution). As a young organisation we needed time to make ourselves
known by other Cameroonians Australia-wide and also to be incorporated
into the Australian system and Law. We have organised few cultural
galas as well as celebrating with Australians and friends important events in Cameroon History and Culture. Amongst these events, we have of course Cameroon National Day (20th of May), Cameroon Youth Day (11th of February) and Cameroon Independance Day (1st of January).
All these events have always been very successful and we have made many
friends and built strong relationships with Official Authorithies and Organisations here in Australia. As an association, we took a very important role in the
2006 Commonwealth Games held here in Australia. On that occasion, we had very tight links with Strathbogie Shire Council and Whittlesea Council which were the two
cities to "adopt" Cameroon during the Commonwealth Games.
CAA is now looking to move forward in its achievements. We have an important statement of work that will include the documentation of a 5-Year Strategic Plan and ways and means to achieve the projects of the Strategic Plan. We are currently in the process of finding key strategic partners and securing funding for the 5-Year Strategic Plan. As such, we are interested to hear from any organisation that is willing to assist and support us in these objectives. Initial contacts can always be made by contacting either the Public Relations Officer (serge@cameroon-australia.org), the President (jeanclaude@cameroon-australia.org) or the Secretary General (aloys@cameroon-australia.org) of the Association.
